ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted interim bail to former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in eight cases dated May 9. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case, which included Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi.
During the hearing, Special Prosecutor Punjab Zulfiqar Naqvi told the court that he could not appear the previous day due to illness. The Chief Justice asked him to assist and answer two important questions today: whether a final decision can be given in the bail case and how the bails granted to other accused on conspiracy charges will affect this case.
The Special Prosecutor told the court that the court’s observation of bail is interim in nature and does not affect the outcome of the trial. The court then granted interim bail to Imran Khan in eight cases dated May 9, however, due to his conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust case, he will not be able to get immediate release from jail.
Following the court’s decision, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s legal team has obtained all interim bails, but legal proceedings will continue in other cases, including the Al-Qadir Trust case.
