Health crisis after floods: Dangerous increase in dengue, malaria and diarrhea cases

A World Health Organization report has revealed that epidemics are spreading rapidly in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan and if timely measures are not taken, the health system may weaken further.

The report said that diarrhea cases are increasing in Sindh and Balochistan, while there has been a significant increase in scabies, skin diseases and snake and dog bites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the data, the number of dengue patients has increased by 41 percent while malaria cases have increased by 26 percent.  On the other hand, dozens of hospitals have been severely affected by the flood disasters and many are no longer fully functional.
