The government of Sindh has officially declared a public holiday across the province on Friday, March 13, 2026, in observance of Jumat‑ul‑Wida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial administration, all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous institutions, and local councils will remain closed on the day. The decision was taken to allow citizens to participate in special prayers and religious gatherings held on the spiritually significant occasion.
Officials said the holiday was announced keeping in view the religious importance of Jumat-ul-Wida and Youm‑e‑Quds, which is also observed on the last Friday of Ramadan in many parts of the Muslim world. Large congregations and processions are expected to take place in major cities, including Karachi, where mosques and public spaces typically host special prayers and religious events.
The notification clarified that while government offices and educational institutions will remain closed, essential services will continue to operate without interruption. Hospitals, emergency response units, and municipal service departments will remain functional to ensure that public services are not disrupted.
Authorities have advised citizens to cooperate with local administrations and law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order during the religious gatherings. Security arrangements are also expected to be strengthened in major cities to manage large congregations attending Jumat-ul-Wida prayers.
The provincial government had earlier announced that educational institutions across Sindh will observe spring vacations from March 16 to March 31.
Officials said the break will provide students and teachers with an opportunity to rest after the ongoing academic schedule and the Ramadan period.
Jumat-ul-Wida holds special significance for Muslims as it marks the final Friday of Ramadan, when worshippers gather in large numbers at mosques to offer congregational prayers and engage in additional acts of worship.
Observers say the declaration of a public holiday is aimed at facilitating religious observance and ensuring that citizens can participate in the spiritual activities associated with the sacred occasion without workplace obligations.
