The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended trading on Thursday under pressure. The KSE-100 index closed at 176,591.76, down 254.60 points.
The index opened at 177,266.90 points. During the session, the KSE-100 saw a high of 178,291.37 points. The low was 176,156.56 points.
The index recorded a total decline of 0.14 percent. Despite this, buying continued in some of the market’s major companies.
According to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, a total of 665.19 million shares were traded on Thursday. The market traded at a value of Rs 30.79 billion.
OGDC was the most significant positive contributor in the KSE-100. It added 116.91 points to the index. ENGRO contributed 108.69 points. SAZEW also contributed 95.66 points positively.
MEBL and MARI were also among the major stocks supporting the index. Their positive performance limited the impact of weakness in some other stocks.
On the other hand, UBL exerted the most pressure on the KSE-100. Its negative impact was 177.75 points. HUBC contributed 86.43 points to the decline. BAHL, HBL and FATIMA were also among the significant stocks that contributed negatively.
The situation was different in other major indices. The KMI-30 index rose 774.71 points to 249,569.23, a gain of 0.31%.
OGDC was the biggest positive contributor of 333.64 points in the KMI-30. ENGRO and SAZEW added 330.86 and 273.02 points respectively.
HUBC was the biggest negative contributor in the KMI-30. EFERT, PSO, MLCF and DGKC also weighed on the sentiment.
Latest data from PSX shows that Thursday’s session was not entirely one-sided. Divergent movements in the big stocks kept the market mixed.
As per the definition of KMI-30, it reflects the performance of 30 of the most liquid and Shariah-compliant companies on the PSX.
Overall, the KSE-100 was marginally down. However, buying in selected big stocks limited the market’s losses.
