Weekly bearish in PSX

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed marginally higher on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 154.81 points on the first trading day of November.

The index settled at 166,564.06 points, compared with the previous close of 166,409.25 points, representing an increase of 0.09%.

Despite the positive closing figure, trading remained volatile. The benchmark moved between an intraday low of 165,585.42 and a high of 166,989.76 points.

The market’s overall performance remained mixed, as selling pressure in several stocks limited the broader recovery.

According to the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s market summary, 443.43 million shares were traded during the session, with a total value of approximately Rs17.73 billion. The exchange recorded 288,297 trades.

KMI-30 records gains.

The KMI-30 Index, which tracks Shariah-compliant companies listed on the PSX, also ended the session in positive territory.

It gained 254.67 points, or 0.11%, to close at 238,226.41 points, compared with its previous close of 237,971.74 points.

The index touched an intraday high of 238,760.41 and a low of 236,439.56 points. Its trading volume stood at approximately 47.70 million shares.

Market activity and capitalisation

Market participation remained relatively subdued compared with the previous session. According to the figures provided in the market report, around 440 million shares changed hands, while the total market capitalisation declined by approximately Rs95 billion to Rs18.293 trillion.

The broader market also reflected selling pressure, with 319 stocks declining, 137 advancing and 112 remaining unchanged, according to the PSX market summary.

The contrast between the KSE-100’s modest gain and the larger number of declining stocks indicated that the benchmark’s positive performance did not represent a broad-based recovery across the market.
