Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has accused the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of creating obstacles to counterterrorism efforts, describing it as one of the facilitators of terrorism.
In an interview with Reuters, he said Pakistan had a clear strategy to eliminate terrorist networks and their support systems operating inside the country. He added that an element which had been obstructing counterterrorism activities in the province was no longer present.
The military spokesperson said security forces conduct around 200 intelligence-based operations every day. These operations involve coordination among the army, police and other law enforcement agencies.
He stressed that Pakistan would continue targeted operations as part of its broader strategy to counter militancy.
Afghanistan and domestic security challenges
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said terrorist leadership, training camps and launch facilities were present in Afghanistan. However, he also acknowledged that some terrorism-related challenges needed to be addressed within Pakistan.
He said the country had developed extensive experience in counterterrorism and maintained that its experience in dealing with militancy was unmatched by that of any other country or military.
The DG ISPR also highlighted the suffering of people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying they had borne the greatest burden of terrorism. He described the Pashtun community as proud of its traditions and said residents of the province wanted peace and stability.
He added that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deserved lasting security and an environment free from violence. Radio Pakistan+1
