Islamabad: In a significant move to strengthen Pakistan’s judiciary, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved the appointment of six new judges to the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Amir Farooq. The decision, made during a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, also includes the elevation of Chief Justices from the Peshawar, Balochistan, Lahore, and Sindh High Courts, as well as two additional judges from the Peshawar High Court. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb has been appointed as an acting judge under Article 181, while the appointment of a Lahore High Court judge has been deferred.
These appointments come amid calls for greater judicial transparency and efficiency, with the newly appointed judges expected to bring diverse expertise to the apex court. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court has reassigned legal responsibilities from Justices Babar Sattar and Sardar Ejaz, sparking discussions about internal judicial dynamics.
