Islamabad — Pakistan’s federal budget for 2025-26 will now be presented in parliament on June 10. According to the Finance Ministry spokesperson, earlier the budget was likely to be presented on June 2, but now a new date has been announced.
The economic survey will be released on June 9, while the consultation process with the IMF before the budget announcement has not yet been completed. According to sources in the Finance Ministry, today was the last day of negotiations between Pakistan and the IMF, in which no final consensus could be reached despite morning and afternoon sessions.
The Pakistani team was led by the Finance Secretary, while thean of the FBR and his team also participated in the negotiations. During the talks, Pakistan presented alternative proposals to the IMF on reducing the tax burden on the salaried class, reducing the cost of the industrial sector, and on development and non-development expenditures.
Plans related to the collection of agricultural income tax, increasing the revenue of the provinces, and increasing non-tax revenues were also part of the talks. According to sources, the talks will resume next week, and the approval of the budget targets will be possible only in consultation with the IMF.
