Islamabad: The spokesperson of the Election Commission of Pakistan has termed the recent allegations against the institution as baseless and said that some elements are trying to make the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner controversial through misleading propaganda, but the institution will not be swayed by any kind of pressure or illegal influence.

The spokesperson said that it is normal to meet various officials under constitutional and official responsibilities, as meetings have been held with the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly or former President Arif Alvi in the past on topics like EVMs and internet voting.

The spokesperson also said that many central leaders of PTI have also been holding formal meetings with the Election Commission, so the attempt to make the recent meeting controversial is unfair.

He strongly denied the allegations of Sahibzada Hamid Raza, saying that he appeared as a candidate of PTI ideology in his papers, while no ticket or alliance application was submitted by Sunni Ittehad Council. That is why he was declared an independent candidate and given the election symbol of Minar.
