Thanksgiving Day was celebrated across the country on the completion of one year of the historic victory in the Battle of Haq, while the main ceremony was held at GHQ, Rawalpindi. The ceremony was attended by the top leadership of the armed forces, government figures and people from different walks of life.
At the beginning of the ceremony, flowers were placed at the Martyrs’ Memorial, and tributes were paid to those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said in his address that the unity and courage shown by the Pakistani nation in difficult times will be written in golden letters in history.
He said that the enemy tried to weaken Pakistan’s resolve, but the Pakistani forces and the people together foiled every conspiracy. He said that Pakistan’s defence force is fully capable of dealing with any threat.
The Field Marshal warned India that the consequences of any new adventure will not be limited, but its effects will be far-reaching and severe. He said that Pakistan wants peace but there will be no compromise on national security.
He added that the Battle of Haq emerged as a symbol of success not only in the military field but also at the national level, where the people stood by the Pakistani forces and demonstrated practical solidarity.
The ceremony also appreciated the services of the Pakistan Air Force and the Pakistan Navy, while the resolve to continue the ongoing war against terrorism until the last terrorist is eliminated was reiterated.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message, termed the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir as important in the success of the Battle of Haq, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the Pakistani nation cannot be suppressed or bowed down.
