Iran has once again made it clear that its military capabilities are the main pillar of national defense and there is no question of any bargaining or concession on them.
Briefing the media in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghai said that Iran’s defense resources and military capabilities are a guarantee of the country’s right to defense, therefore they cannot be made part of negotiations or any political agreement.
He said that some regional circles are expressing reservations about Iran’s defense program, however, Tehran rejects these concerns and calls its defense system a complete national security necessity.
According to the spokesperson, the aim of Iran’s defense policy is not to target any country in the region, but to ensure the security of its sovereignty, borders and people. He said that Iran reserves the full right to defend itself under international law.
Esmail Baqai also rejected concerns raised by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) about Iran’s military capabilities, saying that no concessions or bargaining on defense resources are possible.
According to analysts, Iran’s stance comes at a time when discussions are underway at various levels regarding security, defense balance and diplomatic relations in the region. Iran says its defense capabilities are part of a completely sovereign national policy and there will be no compromise on them.
