Anti-Corruption Punjab takes major action, crackdown on illegal housing schemes intensifies

Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Sohail Zafar Chatha has said that strict action has been taken against illegal housing schemes in the wake of the floods. According to him, summons have been issued to Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and a complete record of housing schemes has been sought.

The DG Anti-Corruption revealed that records of housing schemes built along the Ravi River are being obtained. Meanwhile, the owner of a large illegal private housing scheme has been arrested, who is accused of transferring Rs 8 billion to Dubai. This scheme was built on 11,000 kanals of land near Thokar, and the alleged connivance of some LDA officers has also come to light.

Sohail Zafar Chatha says that the scope of the investigation has been further expanded, and the government is determined to return the money looted from these schemes to the affected people. According to him, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has a clear vision that there will be no concessions at any level against government officials involved in corruption.

According to experts, if this crackdown continues with seriousness and transparency, not only will the citizens get relief but illegal housing schemes will also be discouraged in the future. However, the real test is whether these actions are just temporary or will they really become part of a permanent policy.
