The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed higher on Monday as renewed buying interest helped the benchmark KSE-100 Index recover from intraday volatility and settle above the 171,000-point level.
The KSE-100 Index closed at 171,153.16 points, gaining 268.58 points during the session.
The index opened at 171,412.81 points and initially moved higher as buying interest strengthened. It reached an intraday high of 171,732.62 points before profit-taking pushed the benchmark down to a low of 170,902.75 points.
Buying activity returned later in the session, helping the market recover from the day’s low. The KSE-100 ultimately finished in positive territory despite the pressure witnessed during trading.
Cement and fertiliser stocks were among the sectors supporting the benchmark. Lucky Cement made the largest positive contribution to the KSE-100, adding 89.34 points.
Attock Refinery contributed 53.82 points, while Fauji Fertiliser added 41.63 points. Mari Energies contributed 35.33 points, and Engro Fertiliser added 34.81 points.
On the negative side, Pakistan Services Limited recorded the largest drag on the index. Meezan Bank, Systems Limited, United Bank and OGDC were also among the stocks weighing on the benchmark.
Trading activity remained active across the broader market. Shares of 494 companies changed hands during the session. Of these, 238 stocks closed higher, while 213 declined and 43 remained unchanged.
Around 692.88 million shares were traded in the ready market, with the total trading value reaching approximately Rs20.10 billion.
The KMI-30 Index, which tracks Shariah-compliant companies, also ended the session in positive territory. It closed at 243,765.66 points, gaining 626.42 points, or 0.26 percent.
Despite Monday’s recovery, the latest session alone does not establish a sustained market trend. The KSE-100’s broader performance during the financial year remains negative, making continued buying activity and the performance of major sectors important factors for the market’s direction in the coming sessions.
