Selling pressure prevailed during the trading week on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, as a result of which the benchmark KSE-100 index fell by more than 4,044 points. At the end of the week, the index closed at 162,374 points, while the total market value also recorded a significant decline.
During the trading sessions, the index reached a high of 166,698 points and a low of 162,292 points. Thus, the index witnessed a fluctuation of 4,406 points during the week, which reflects the cautious behaviour of investors and the uncertain situation in the market.
The total volume of buying and selling of shares during this period was 1.96 billion shares, while the value of these transactions was recorded at about Rs 96 billion. On the other hand, the market capitalisation decreased from Rs 465 billion to Rs 18,014 billion.
Regional tensions, rising global oil prices and concerns about economic uncertainty are being cited as the main factors behind the market downturn. The increasing tension in the Middle East may affect investor expectations due to potential pressure on Pakistan’s energy import costs and external accounts.
In the coming business days, investors are likely to focus on the State Bank’s monetary policy, financial results of companies, global oil prices and the situation in the region. However, the future direction of the market will depend on the changes in these factors and the buying and selling trend.
