LNG prices rise marginally in August, new pressure on energy costs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has witnessed another hike in imported energy prices, as OGRA has announced a hike of $0.15 per MMBTU in liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices for August. After this decision, the price of LNG on the Sui Northern system has been fixed at $11.73 and on the Sui Southern system at $10.72 per MMBTU.

According to experts, fluctuations in the global energy market, import costs and changes in the value of the dollar are the main reasons for this increase. They say that although the increase is marginal, it can have an impact on the production cost of the industrial and commercial sector, especially in those sectors that depend on gas.

Energy experts believe that LNG prices in the coming months will depend on global market conditions, seasonal demand and government import policies, while consumers may feel more burdened in electricity and gas bills.
