Weekly bearish in PSX

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) started the new trading week on a negative note. Regional tensions and concerns over rising global crude oil prices kept investors cautious. The impact of this situation was also seen on the overall activity of the stock market.

At the end of the trading session, the benchmark KSE-100 index fell by 1,692.75 points to 173,636.07 points. The index recorded a decline of about one percent. The market remained volatile during the day and the buying trend could not be sustained.

Investors’ attention was mainly focused on the situation in the Middle East and global energy markets. The continuous increase in crude oil prices has significant economic implications for a country like Pakistan that is dependent on imported oil. Rising energy costs are likely to increase pressure on import bills, business expenses and inflation.

About 679 million shares were traded in the stock market on Monday, while the total trading value was Rs 23.69 billion. The number of shares decreased compared to the previous session, but the trading value remained significant.

According to the data, shares of 495 companies were traded in the market. Of these, the share prices of 154 companies increased while the value of 311 decreased. The share prices of 30 companies remained stable, which resulted in significant selling pressure in the overall market.

As a result of the downturn, the total market capitalization of the Pakistan Stock Exchange decreased by about Rs 195 billion to Rs 19.434 trillion. Investors will closely watch global oil prices, regional conditions and local economic indicators in the upcoming sessions.

According to experts, any major change in external factors can have an impact on the local stock market. That is why investors are likely to remain cautious in the current situation.
