Punjab Cabinet Meeting: Tariff reduction, farmer subsidy, electric buses and Nawaz Sharif Medical City approval

Lahore: Several important development decisions were taken in the 26th provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, including a reduction in electricity tariff, agricultural subsidy, transport facilities, and major health projects.

Maryam Nawaz announced a 30 to 40 percent tariff reduction to provide relief to the people in electricity bills. Punjab became the first province in Pakistan to voluntarily reduce power rates.

There has also been significant progress in the agriculture sector; it was informed in the meeting that 514,000 farmers have been given a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre, and more farmers will be paid soon. Rs 63 billion has been released under the Kisan Card, from which 18 billion worth of fertilizer has been purchased so far.

As a revolutionary step in the health sector, 5,000 kanals of land have been allocated for the “Nawaz Sharif Medical City,” where specialized medical centers, parks, urban forests, and hotels will also be built.

To improve transport, approval has been given to run electric buses in 9 divisions of Punjab, and orders have also been issued for the immediate installation of charging stations.
