An important legal breakthrough has come in the case of alleged police action at Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan’s residence in Lahore. After investigating the related incident, a case has been registered against 11 police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarwar Road Police Station, while the investigation process has also been formally taken forward.
According to police sources, the action was taken on separate information; however, the investigation raised the question of whether the police team fully followed the prescribed legal procedure and the limits of its powers during the action. On this basis, legal action was initiated against the responsible officials.
The petition has taken the stand that the police personnel entered the premises of the residence where only domestic workers were present at the time. According to the complaint, allegations of harassment of staff and damage to some properties have also come to light during the operation. Evidence and statements are being examined to verify these claims.
The investigating authorities say that a detailed examination of the available CCTV footage, witness statements and other evidence related to the incident is being conducted so that all the facts can be brought to light. The authorities have expressed their determination that the investigation will be completed in a transparent and impartial manner.
On the other hand, the police authorities have confirmed that the SHO of Sarwar Road police station has obtained interim bail from the concerned court. Evidence will be presented before the court in the next hearing of the case, while further action will be taken as per the law after the investigation is completed.
According to legal experts, this matter is important in the context of the professional responsibilities of law enforcement agencies and the legal rights of citizens. They say that public trust can only be strengthened through transparent investigations and uniform application of the law.
