PTI’s reaction to Azad Kashmir elections questions public trust and transparency

PTI

The political reaction has been continuing since the elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has voiced its concerns regarding the electoral process, voter turnout and political climate.

According to the party, in a statement, voter turnout in some polling stations was below the expected level, which was an indication of citizen trust in the electoral process. But the party’s assertion has not been substantiated independently.

PTI had described the current political atmosphere as less conducive for free and fair elections, saying it’s essential to give equal opportunity to all political parties for a real democratic process. The party believes that a free and fair electoral setting is essential to build voters’ trust.

The PTI, in its statement, also lashed out at the Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Peoples Party for their “power politics” rather than public agendas. The other side, however, is the Kashmiri people, who are emphasising their demands for fundamental rights and better governance and effective representation.

These are some of the highlights of the above-quoted statement by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The final position on voter turnout and other election administrative issues such as transparency would be determined based on official data and reports from the Election Commission and institutions.
