According to the latest weekly report of the Bureau of Statistics, the inflation rate in the country has increased for the third consecutive week. This week, the inflation rate increased by 0.49 percent, after which the rate increased to 4.57 percent on an annual basis.
According to the report, during the last week, the prices of 24 essential commodities including potatoes, eggs, flour, onions, tomatoes, garlic, ghee and washing soup were seen increasing. On the other hand, the prices of 8 basic commodities including chicken, moong dal, bananas, gram dal, rice, petrol and diesel decreased, while the prices of 19 essential commodities remained stable.
According to the data, the price of tomatoes increased the most by 33.20 percent in a week. Onion became more expensive by 8.70 percent, eggs by 2.81 percent, flour by 1.42 percent, potatoes by 0.71 percent, garlic by 0.85 percent, vegetable ghee by 0.63 percent and washing soup by 0.08 percent.
On the other hand, the items whose prices decreased were chicken by 6.38 percent, moong dal by 0.49 percent, banana by 4.70 percent, gram dal by 2.20 percent, basmati broken rice by 0.51 percent, petrol by 2.09 percent and high-speed diesel by 0.55 percent.
The report of the Bureau of Statistics said that this continuous increase in the prices of food items and energy is further increasing the inflationary pressure on the common consumers.
