Air pollution in the city of Lahore is once again touching dangerous levels, due to which citizens are facing difficulty in breathing and health problems. According to the latest report by the international organisation IQAir, Lahore has been declared the second most polluted city in the world.
According to the report, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded at an average of 154, which falls in the “unhealthy” category. Experts say that breathing in such an atmosphere can prove to be very dangerous for children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory diseases.
According to health experts, the main cause of air pollution in Lahore is PM2.5 particles, the amount of which is about 12 times higher than the standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO). These fine particles can enter the lungs and cause serious diseases such as respiratory, heart and cancer.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department says that the weather is likely to remain dry during the next 24 hours and there are no signs of immediate improvement in air pollution.
Citizens have been advised to use masks, protect their eyes and not forget to wash their hands and face after coming home, especially in the evening hours when the intensity of smog increases.
