The Iranian army has signalled a change in its military strategy after recent war experiences. According to army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Akramini, Iran is now adopting a more active military posture to respond to potential attacks.
Akramini said in an interview with Iranian media that recent conflicts have raised awareness of regional politics in Iranian society. In particular, public attention has increased on the importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to him, the experiences gained during the war have also influenced military planning. The Iranian army has moved beyond a defensive approach and developed a strategy that includes responding more quickly to potential threats.
The spokesman, however, clarified that active or proactive defence does not mean that Iran intends to start a war without provocation. According to him, the main goal of the army is to defend the country and respond effectively in the event of any external attack.
The Iranian military has also recently stepped up its defensive preparations in the southern regions and near the Strait of Hormuz. Reports say that quick-response forces have been strengthened to defend coastal areas and key islands.
