Maryam Nawaz chairs meeting to discuss regularization of illegal housing societies

Lahore: A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz discussed the issue of illegal housing societies in Punjab province in detail and agreed to create a mechanism to bring these societies under the legal ambit. The meeting decided that unnecessary NOC conditions would be abolished to facilitate the registration of housing societies.

The meeting was informed that there are a total of 7,905 housing schemes in Punjab, out of which 2,687 are approved and 5,118 are illegal or pending. Out of 707 societies under the Lahore Development Authority, 427 are approved while 206 are illegal.

The facility of online approval, transfer, and payment of NOC fees will be provided under the new housing society management system.

Maryam Nawaz said in the meeting that the hard-earned money of the common people is being looted through illegal housing schemes, and government departments are involved in it. She raised the question of why the relevant institutions remained silent when these illegal schemes were being established.

She hinted at the implementation of an amnesty scheme under the rules and regulations so that the public can be protected from harm and illegal societies can be brought under the legal amnesty.
