Punjab Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to make the use of indicators mandatory while driving motorcycles and cars, as minor negligence can lead to major accidents.
According to the spokesperson, research has revealed that a major cause of road accidents is drivers suddenly changing lanes or taking turns without signalling. In such situations, vehicles coming from behind are unable to react in time, which increases the risk of collision.
The traffic police also emphasised that repairing or replacing the indicator is not an expensive process. According to officials, this facility can be reactivated for just a few hundred rupees, about Rs 400, which is a very small amount compared to the protection of human lives.
Police officials said that citizens should take traffic rules seriously and demonstrate responsible driving so that accidents can be reduced. He said that if the violation continues despite awareness, strict legal action will be taken.
According to traffic experts, most accidents in Pakistan occur due to human negligence, in which not using indicators is prominent. If citizens adopt this simple habit, it is possible to reduce accidents to a large extent.
The traffic police, while appealing to the public for cooperation, have said that it is the responsibility of every person on the road to keep the safety of others in mind.
