Heavy rain in the provincial capital in the first phase of monsoon made the weather pleasant, but at the same time, power outages increased the problems of citizens. On the one hand, large parts of the city were plunged into darkness.
According to a spokesperson for the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), more than 80 feeders tripped across the city due to heavy rain, due to which power supply to many areas was suspended. Citizens say that power outages during rains severely affect normal life and the accumulation of water in their homes also increases the problems.
According to WASA Lahore data, differences were seen in the intensity of rainfall in different areas of the city. The highest rainfall was recorded in Paniwala Talab at 112 mm, while Iqbal Town received 97 mm, Laxmi Chowk 94.5 mm and Farrukhabad received 94 mm. Other areas received rainfall in Nishtar Town (74 mm), Samanabad (82.5 mm), Gulberg (76 mm), and Chowk Nakhda (70.5 mm).
Urban life affected: Major roads and areas under water
The rain resulted in water accumulation on several major routes and residential areas of the city, disrupting the traffic system. Apart from Canal Road, Jail Road, Mall Road, Gulberg, Multan Road, Johar Town and Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road and Ichhra were also severely affected by the rain. This situation has caused difficulties not only for commuters but also for pedestrians.
