Pakistan is immersed in deep devotion and reverence today, celebrating Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The day commenced with a traditional 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals, followed by special prayers for the nation’s prosperity and the unity of the Muslim world.
Across the country, cities, streets, and markets have been adorned with vibrant green flags and dazzling electric lights. Public and private buildings, as well as mosques and homes, are illuminated to mark the sacred occasion. A series of events are underway, including seminars, conferences, and Naat gatherings, all focused on the life and teachings of the Prophet (PBUH). Processions are also being held as part of the countrywide celebrations.
In anticipation of the large gatherings and processions, security has been significantly heightened. Police authorities have implemented strict measures to ensure the safety of all participants. According to Punjab Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, comprehensive security is being provided for all events and rallies throughout the province. He confirmed that security forces are on high alert to prevent any potential incidents.
In a gesture of goodwill, the federal government has announced a reduction in the sentences of certain prisoners. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the Federal Cabinet has recommended to the President a 100-day reduction in the sentences of inmates serving time for various crimes, as per Article 45 of the Constitution.
Both President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended their heartfelt congratulations to the nation and the Muslim Ummah. In his message, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings introduced new principles of justice, equality, and mercy to humanity. He emphasized that a lasting solution to Pakistan’s challenges can only be achieved by incorporating these noble teachings into the national character. President Zardari, in his separate message, described the day as a momentous occasion of joy and reverence for the entire Muslim community.
