Islamabad: The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has issued new travel guidelines for Pakistani pilgrims going to Iran and Iraq, clarifying that arrangements for pilgrimages will be made only through registered pilgrim group operators (ZGOs), while the responsibility for the affairs of those travelling through unauthorised means will not fall on the government or the ministry.
The ministry issued a public awareness message stating that 262 pilgrim group operators have been registered across the country. These operators have been authorised to make travel, accommodation and other arrangements for pilgrims to ensure better management and convenience during the pilgrimage.
According to the authorities, people visiting religious sites in Iran and Iraq should contact only approved group operators instead of contracting with any private or unregistered agent. The move is aimed at protecting pilgrims from fraud, financial loss and travel difficulties.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs further explained that the complete list of registered pilgrim group operators is available on the ministry’s website. Citizens have been advised to check the registration of the relevant operator before booking or making payment to avoid any illegal or unapproved arrangements.
The official statement said that if an individual arranges a pilgrimage through an unregistered institution, agent or person, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will not accept responsibility for any problems or losses that may arise. Therefore, all pilgrims have been urged to make travel decisions only after caution and verification.
Experts say that arranging pilgrimages through registered operators will not only better protect the rights of pilgrims but also allow for more organised handling of matters such as travel documents, visas, accommodation, transport and emergency assistance.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has asked citizens to contact the ministry’s official sources if they have a complaint or need information about an operator and to rely only on authentic information.
