A flood emergency has unfolded in Kasur after India suddenly discharged a heavy volume of water into the Sutlej River without prior warning. The unexpected release has caused water levels at Head Ganda Singh Wala to surge beyond the danger mark of 20 feet, recording a powerful flow of 101,000 cusecs, and sparking alarm among residents living near the river belt.

Dozens of Villages Affected as River Crosses Danger Level
With the Sutlej River overflowing, many low-lying areas have been inundated, cutting off access to several villages. Among the worst-affected communities are Hakuvala, Kalu Wada, Bhikhi Wind Ala, and Jumay Wala, while main connecting roads—Dhup Sari, Nagar Aimanpura, Maste Ki Gatti, and Kalingar Gaon—have been completely submerged. Locals report that the district administration has yet to provide adequate relief, despite the growing risk to lives and property.

PDMA on Alert: Moderate Flood Warning Issued
In view of the worsening situation, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an official flood alert for Ganda Singh Wala and adjoining areas. According to the PDMA spokesperson, moderate flooding is expected over the next 48 hours, as the river flow continues to depend on water discharges from Indian reservoirs.

Provincial Authorities Mobilized for Emergency Response

Following directives from Punjab Chief Minister, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to stay on high alert. Departments including Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government, and Livestock have been mobilized to ensure timely coordination, evacuation assistance, and relief efforts for the affected population.

Residents have urged authorities to expedite rescue operations and deploy flood-relief teams before the situation worsens further.
