Only Eight SIMs Allowed Per Person: PTA Reminds Users of Telecom Rules

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has directed citizens to immediately check the details of SIMs registered on their identity information, as using a SIM in someone else’s name is a crime under the law.

According to PTA officials, the responsibility of all activities done through the SIM, including calls, messages and internet data, will lie with the person in whose name the SIM is registered. Legal action can be taken in case of violation.

PTA Director Kashif Ghafoor said that no final decision has been taken yet on whether SIMs registered in unrelated names will be blocked or not; however, users should take precautionary measures.

He informed the users that to know the number of SIMs registered in their name, they should send the CNIC number to 668, after which all the details will be provided in a reply message.

According to digital security experts, SIM verification not only protects users from legal problems but also plays an important role in preventing online fraud, cybercrime and illegal activities.
