Senate Bill Seeks Total Ban on Vapes to Halt Global Nicotine Crisis

A new bill has been presented to the Senate aimed at completely banning the sale of e-cigarettes and vapes, particularly to minors.

The legislation, introduced by Senator Sarmad Ali, would not only prohibit the sale of these nicotine-delivery devices to children under 18 but would also outlaw their use in public places and ban all related advertising. This move is a direct response to a WHO warning that e-cigarettes are fueling a dangerous “new wave of nicotine addiction” globally, which has already hooked over 15 million children worldwide.

Violators of the proposed law would face escalating fines, starting at Rs 50,000 and potentially reaching Rs 500,000 for repeat offenses, with especially stiff penalties for selling near educational institutions.
