Islamabad: The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, has sent a detailed letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, expressing serious reservations about the judicial proceedings of the May 9 cases.
In the letter, Shibli Faraz took the position that the basic principles of justice are being ignored in these cases, and the performance of the police and prosecution is clearly biased.
He said that factors such as hearings of cases in the courts at unusual hours (3 to 4 am), decisions without a lawyer, and forced appointment of a public prosecutor raise questions about the quality of justice.
He demanded that the judicial procedure of all cases be re-determined and the Chief Justice himself supervise a transparent and impartial inquiry.
Shibli Faraz wrote that the proceedings going on behind closed doors not only undermine public trust but are also against the spirit of the constitution and law.
At the end of the letter, he emphasized that “the judiciary is the guardian of the constitution and the supremacy of justice is your responsibility, the nation has placed its hopes on the judiciary.”
