Strict sanitation laws implemented in Punjab: Maryam Nawaz’s Clean Punjab initiative enters next phase

The Punjab government has introduced new administrative and legal measures to modernize the sanitation system in the province. In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it was decided that spreading garbage throughout the province will be considered a punishable violation and fines will be imposed under civil laws.

The meeting also decided that all vehicles used for cleaning will be converted to electric vehicles in a phased manner to reduce environmental pollution and make the cleaning system more effective. It was also decided to deploy special monitoring teams against those who spread garbage in commercial areas, markets and roads.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on the occasion that “We started implementing Clean Punjab from zero point and today its positive results are coming out at the public level. The confidence of the citizens is increasing and we will make it better.”

Terming the move as an important milestone for the province, an environmental policy analyst said that both strict penalties and technological upgradation can take the standard of cleanliness in Punjab to a new level.
