A formal petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court by the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, seeking permission to examine the doctors of Shaukat Khanum Hospital. The petition was submitted by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, expressing concern about Imran Khan’s health.

The petition has taken the stand that the former prime minister is facing several medical problems, while for their correct diagnosis and treatment, an examination by Shaukat Khanum specialists is necessary. The Punjab government has been made a party in the petition through the prison department so that the relevant administrative permits can be issued immediately.

According to the petition, medical facilities as a prisoner are a fundamental right under Pakistani law and unnecessary delay in getting better treatment can prove dangerous for them.

Commenting on the matter, a legal expert said that the court generally prioritizes the health of prisoners in such cases and if medical necessity is proven, the courts can grant special permission. According to experts, this case is being considered important in terms of fundamental medical rights.
