Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed modernising the agricultural sector, increasing scientific research and providing better facilities to farmers to strengthen food security in Pakistan.
In his message on the occasion of World Food Day, the Prime Minister said that climate change, water scarcity, declining soil fertility and increasing production costs are major challenges for agriculture.
This year, the theme of World Food Day is “Innovation Today, Nutrition Tomorrow”, which highlights the importance of modern technology in improving agricultural production and making the food system more sustainable.
Improved seeds, effective irrigation, mechanised cultivation and reduction of post-harvest losses can be important steps for agricultural innovation in Pakistan. The results of these steps will also depend on access to technology, training and financial resources to farmers.
