Cabinet to be briefed on 27th Constitutional Amendment, MQM supports

According to sources, a detailed briefing will be given on the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the federal cabinet meeting, while this amendment is also likely to be presented in the Senate session tomorrow.

Today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the coalition parties and took them into confidence regarding the amendment. The Prime Minister assured the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation that their draft related to the local government system will be included in the amendment.

According to sources, after the Prime Minister’s assurance, the MQM has supported the amendment and has also promised to help in getting the support of other coalition parties.

The MQM demanded from the Prime Minister that the local governments formed after the elections be given financial, administrative and political powers, that their term be four years, and that the next elections be held under a caretaker setup.
