Power tariff is likely to be reduced; the Finance Minister hinted at important steps

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that an announcement is expected from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif soon regarding the reduction in electricity tariffs. In an interview with a foreign magazine during China’s Boao Forum, he said the reduction in electricity prices would boost the manufacturing sector and boost exports. The finance minister further said that the government is pursuing a strategy to increase exports and widen the tax net for the betterment of the economy, under which sectors like real estate, retail, and agriculture will be included in the tax net. He also predicted a further decline in inflation and interest rates.
