The federal government has appointed Major General Faisal Naseer as the National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA). The Establishment Division has issued an official notification of his appointment.
According to the official order, the appointment has been made under the NACTA Act 2013, and Major General Faisal Naseer will serve in this position for three years.
Major General Faisal Naseer is an officer of the Pakistan Army. He has been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and the Medal of Honor. His experience includes various responsibilities related to security and counter-terrorism.
NACTA works to give a coherent direction to the government’s efforts against terrorism and extremism in the country. The organization also plays an important role in improving communication and information exchange between various federal and provincial departments.
The post of National Coordinator is central to this coordination system. Under the new responsibility, Major General Faisal Naseer will have to work to make cooperation between the relevant agencies more effective and maintain better coordination in matters related to counter-terrorism.
This appointment comes at a time when Pakistan is facing several security challenges. The importance of effective cooperation between counter-terrorism agencies has increased due to the terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Improving coordination between federal and provincial agencies through NACTA is an important part of the national counter-terrorism policy. With the changing terrorist threats, timely provision of information and cooperation between different agencies are also considered important.
During his three-year term, Major General Faisal Naseer will focus on improving the effectiveness of NACTA’s coordination system and improving cooperation between agencies in the national counter-terrorism efforts.
