New school timings have been set for winter in Punjab According to a notification issued by the Punjab Education Department, the new schedule will come into effect from October 16 and will remain in effect until March 31, 2027.
Under the new school hours, single-shift schools will open at 8:45 am from Monday to Thursday, while the holiday will be at 1:30 pm. On Friday, teaching activities in these schools will continue from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm.
The school hours have also been changed for double-shift schools. According to the notification, the first shift will be from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. After this, the second or evening, shift will start at 1:30 pm and continue till 4:30 pm.
On Friday, the evening shift in double-shift schools will be from 2 pm to 4:30 pm. Thus, the start time of the second shift on the last teaching day of the week has been kept different from the usual.
The new schedule will be applicable to schools across Punjab, which aims to run the hours of educational activities during the winter season according to the prescribed system. It is important for parents and students to confirm the working hours with their respective schools so that they do not face any confusion regarding reaching school in the morning and the time of leave.
The school administration will also have to arrange the teaching schedule and daily arrangements according to the new working hours. It will be important to keep in mind the gap between the first shift leave and the start of the second shift, especially in institutions with double shifts.
According to the notification issued by the Education Department, this schedule will remain in effect until March 31, 2027.
