The active monsoon series in Punjab is likely to continue to affect the weather for the next few days. Some agencies have stated that daily rainfall can disrupt the life of various cities, people should take preventive measures.
The ongoing period of rains could persist until August 5, the Meteorological Department said. The Central and upper Punjab with Lahore is likely to receive rain, occasional in nature, during this period. Lahore temperature is expected to range from 29 to 36°C and heat and humidity could prevail as a result of rain break.
Urban flooding is likely in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan, PDMA has warned. However, the risk of landsliding has also been demonstrated in the Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous regions.
The agency adds that water flow in the eastern rivers and in rain-fed rivers could increase due to the rain in the upper catchment areas. Low level flooding reported at Indus River Kalabagh, Indus River Chashma and Medium level flooding in Nala Palkho, Wazirabad; Low level flooding in Nala Basantar and Nala Bayan.
WASA Lahore, on the other hand, has directed all its operational staff of drainage to stay alert so that water can be drained immediately in the event of rains.
Citizens living around low-lying areas and rivers have been advised by PDMA to watch out. Further, officials said the flood relief camps have been activated in the affected areas, and food, medicines and other basic amenities will be supplied if necessary.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during rains, avoid going near rain-fed rivers and canals and not let children go into open water to avoid accidents.
