US-Iran ceasefire extension deal may revive nuclear talks

Reports of an extension of the ceasefire between the US and Iran and possible diplomatic progress have sparked a new debate in the Middle East, where the possibility of a breakthrough in talks is now being shown after weeks of tension.

According to US media reports, progress has been made on a 60-day memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, under which not only the ceasefire will be extended but negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program are also expected to resume. Arab media have claimed that the White House has confirmed this progress, but Iran has not yet fully confirmed it at the official level.

According to reports, the proposed agreement is being described as an attempt to immediately reduce tensions in the region and bring the two countries back to the negotiating table. According to US officials, the final approval of the memorandum of understanding is still to be given by US President Donald Trump.

Sources say that the agreement will guarantee the continuation of unhindered shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the proposed points, neither additional toll taxes will be imposed on ships nor will commercial ships be harassed. Along with this, Iran may be obliged to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days, while the end of the US naval blockade has also been discussed.

US officials say that the memorandum of understanding also includes a commitment by Iran not to acquire nuclear weapons. In the initial phase, detailed negotiations will be held on the future of Iran’s highly enriched uranium and the level of uranium enrichment.

The report also says that issues such as possible easing of economic sanctions on Iran and the recovery of frozen assets will also be considered during the proposed negotiations. According to US officials, Tehran is being given an opportunity to free its economy from the pressure of sanctions.

US sources have emphasised that any potential agreement will not include secret clauses or side deals. According to him, all decisions regarding the easing of sanctions or financial assets will be made through a transparent negotiation process.

If the memorandum of understanding is finalised, analysts say it would be a significant diplomatic breakthrough after recent tensions in the region. However, many observers say that any lasting progress may take more time due to the lack of trust, internal political pressure and the complex situation in the region.

The eyes of the international community are currently focused on the next steps of Washington and Tehran, as the impact of this potential agreement could not only affect the Middle East but also global energy markets and international politics.
