Water bodies are a shield against climate change; their protection is a national responsibility: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has termed water bodies as essential for Pakistan’s environmental and economic stability and said that their protection is an important shield to deal with the effects of climate change.

In his message on World Water Resources Day, he said that Pakistan is a party to the 1971 World Water Resources Convention, and this day makes us realise the importance and responsibilities of natural resources.

He pointed out that water resources preserve biodiversity, help in protecting against natural hazards like floods and droughts and are a source of employment and food for millions of people. According to him, if these resources are weak, food shortages, inflation and natural disasters can increase.

The prime minister appealed to the people to consider the protection of water resources as a national duty and play their role in protecting these valuable assets.
