Pak Army with flood victims, rescue and relief operations underway — DG ISPR

Islamabad: Pakistan Army Spokesperson (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that whether it is a state of peace or war, the Pakistan Army always stands with the people. He told a press conference that rescue and relief operations are underway in the flood-affected areas on the special instructions of the Prime Minister and the Army Chief.

According to DG ISPR, flood units are working in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, including one engineer brigade, 19 infantry and 7 engineering units. Army helicopters have so far made 26 flights, while 2 soldiers were martyred and 2 were injured in the relief operations.

He further said that so far 28 thousand people have been shifted to safe places, while 225 tons of ration have been distributed and medical facilities have been provided to more than 20 thousand victims. A large-scale rescue operation is underway in Kartarpur, 6 infantry and 2 engineering units have also been deployed in Gujranwala.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that air relief operations have been carried out in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, while the Karakoram Highway and Jaglot-Skardu Road have also been opened. He said that no false force can create a rift between the people and the army, the Pakistan Army is always with the nation in difficult times.
