ISLAMABAD, MAY 16, 2025 – Today, the “Youm-e-Tashakur” was observed with reverence across the country to celebrate the historic victory of the Armed Forces in Operation “Baniyan-ul-Marsus” and to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the brave soldiers and people.
The day began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers, seeking blessings for the country’s security, development, unity, and freedom of occupied Kashmir.
A 31-gun salute was fired in Islamabad, while all provincial capitals, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan paid homage to the armed forces through 21-gun salutes.
Ceremonies of changing of guards were held at Mazar-e-Quaid (Karachi) and Mazar-e-Iqbal (Lahore). Floral wreaths were laid on the memorial, and salutes were paid to the martyrs.
In Lahore, activists of the Clean City Labour Union celebrated outside the Press Club and hoisted the national flag, while a large number of citizens chanted slogans in favor of the Pakistan Army.
The main function of “Youm-e-Tashakur” will be held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad tonight, in which Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee were also present on the occasion.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his special message, hailed the courage and professionalism of the armed forces and said the victory was a testament to the unity and resolve of the nation.
In his address, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Operation “Baniyan-ul-Marsus” has demolished the arrogance of India’s regional superiority and proved to the world that Pakistan is a strong, determined, and technologically savvy nation.
The federal government has clarified that “Youm-e-Tashakur” is not a public holiday, and citizens have been asked to continue living a routine while participating in national activities.
“Youm-e-Tashakur is an expression of the nation’s resolve to protect the sovereignty, integrity, and dignity of the motherland at all costs.
