KSE-100 Index Loses 2,288 Points in Major PSX Decline

Weekly bearish in PSX

The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a significant decline during the business week, where the benchmark KSE-100 index closed at the lowest level of the current fiscal year with a decline of more than 2 thousand points.

At the end of the business day, the KSE-100 index fell by 2288 points to 165 thousand 867 points. Overall, a cautious attitude was observed from investors in the market.

According to market experts, the political situation and concerns about the long march towards Islamabad affected investor confidence. Along with this, global and domestic economic factors also affected the market trend.

Experts also considered the ongoing negotiations with the IMF as the main focus of investors’ attention. The situation in the Middle East and comments regarding a possible increase in interest rates also increased uncertainty in the market.

The decline in business activities can be gauged from the fact that a total of 440 million shares were traded in the market, worth Rs 15 billion.

According to available data, this is the lowest value of trading in the market after March 13. This shows that in the current situation, investors are adopting a cautious strategy instead of taking large positions.

On the other hand, a decrease was also recorded in the total value of the market. At the end of trading, the market capitalization decreased by Rs 261 billion to Rs 18,464 billion.

The recent volatility in the stock market indicates that political developments, IMF negotiations, and regional situations are currently playing an important role in investors’ decisions. The market direction in the coming sessions will be linked to the developments on these factors.
