Federal debt increases by 13% by June 2025, latest report by State Bank

The State Bank of Pakistan has released the latest figures on the federal government’s debt and liabilities as of June 2025, which show that the federal government’s total debt has increased by 13 percent in the fiscal year 2025.

According to the figures, the federal government’s debt reached Rs77,888 billion as of June 2025, compared to Rs68,914 billion in June 2024.

According to the State Bank’s report, the federal government’s domestic debt increased by 15.5 percent to Rs54,471 billion, while external debt increased by 7.6 percent to Rs23,417 billion.

This increase draws attention to the country’s fiscal situation and the growing debt burden, which could pose a significant challenge to the government’s fiscal sustainability.
