US military naval blockade of IWashington has begun a formal blockade of Iran’s maritime trade routes.
According to the US Central Command, any unrelated ship from the east of the Strait of Hormuz to the Arabian Sea will be banned. President Donald Trump has called the move a major victory against drug smuggling and Iranian aggression.
Centcom officials say that these orders will apply to all private and commercial firms’ ships, but ships carrying food and medicine on humanitarian grounds will be exempted after inspection.
The blockade is likely to have a profound impact on the Iranian economy and maritime transport.
