Cement Demand Surges Domestically in September: APCMA Reports 14% Jump in Local Consumption

The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has released its latest data, revealing a strong surge in local cement consumption in September 2025, signaling a revival in the nation’s construction sector.

According to the APCMA announcement, the total cement consumption in September witnessed a rise of 7 percent, hitting 42.50 lakh tons. The most encouraging figure came from the domestic market, where consumption alone shot up by a significant 14.38 percent to 34.18 lakh tons. This strong demand is attributed to accelerated construction activities across the country.

Mixed Trends in Exports

While domestic sales boomed in September, the cement sector experienced a slight dip in overseas shipments. Exports decreased by 15.25 percent, falling to 8.31 lakh tons for the month.

First Quarter Highlights (FY2025-26)

The overall performance for the first quarter of the current fiscal year (July–September) remained robust, according to the report:

  • Domestic Consumption: Increased by 15.08 percent, reaching 95.73 lakh tons.
  • Exports: Showed healthy growth, rising by 21 percent to 25.89 lakh tons compared to the same period last year, demonstrating strong international demand for Pakistani cement.

Call for Tax Relief

An APCMA spokesperson emphasized the sector’s crucial role in the upcoming flood-affected areas rehabilitation. The spokesperson projected that cement consumption is likely to increase further with the commencement of reconstruction work. To capitalize on this, the APCMA urged the government to ease duties and taxes on cement. They argued that such a measure would not only boost local construction and consumption but also help the industry significantly increase exports, providing a much-needed boost to the economy.
