NDMA Issues Rain Alert for Key Regions: Landslide Risk and Rising River Levels Expected

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for several parts of Pakistan, warning of intermittent rain from October 5 to 7. Provincial and local authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damage.

The rain is expected to affect various areas of Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Potential Hazards and River Warnings

The NDMA report highlights several key risks associated with this weather system:

  • River Chenab is expected to see a rise in its water level.
  • The water flow in the Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers is also likely to increase due to the forecast rain.
  • A major concern is the risk of landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and other mountainous areas.

The authority also noted that the water flow in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers will largely be contingent upon the release of water from Indian reservoirs.

The NDMA stressed the importance of preparedness, urging all relevant administrations to implement precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
