There has been an important progress on the contempt of court petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the hospital transfer of founder PTI Imran Khan. Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan has resubmitted the application after removing the objections of the Registrar’s Office, after which she has been given a regular case number.
The Supreme Court Registrar’s Office has allotted the application Criminal Original Petition No. 8 of 2026. Following this development, the application has now been registered for court proceedings.
Uzma Khan has requested contempt of court proceedings against the government and the relevant authorities in the application. The application is related to the Supreme Court’s August 18 order, in which the court had directed Imran Khan to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Following the court order, Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of Shifa International Hospital. He was medically examined there and later shifted to Adiala Jail again. The government has cited the security situation as the main reason for this decision.
PTI has taken the stand that the authorities did not fully comply with the Supreme Court’s directive. On this basis, Uzma Khan filed a contempt of court petition. The petition also includes a request for legal action against the responsible persons and for providing the required medical facilities to Imran Khan.
The petition was initially returned by the Registrar’s Office with objections. According to PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan, one of the main objections was that the petition did not clearly list the charges against the parties. The party removed the objection and resubmitted the petition.
Uzma Khan has also filed a separate petition for early hearing of the petition. She maintains that the matter is related to Imran Khan’s health and medical care, hence it needs to be processed quickly.
The PTI leadership has also requested the Supreme Court to schedule the matter for early hearing. Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan contacted the Registrar’s Office to inquire about the progress of the case.
The Supreme Court has now scheduled the hearing of the contempt of court petition for September 16, 2026. The pending matters related to Imran Khan’s health and family meeting are also expected to come up before the court on the same day.
The main question before the court in this case will be to what extent the August 18 order was implemented. The government’s position and PTI’s objections will also come up during the hearing. The court will decide on the matter after hearing the record and the arguments of the parties.
It is clear from the latest developments that the issue of Imran Khan’s medical facilities has now taken the form of a formal legal dispute. The upcoming hearing may play an important role in determining the legal direction of the matter.
