Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, underscored the importance of diplomacy in resolving regional conflicts during a phone call late Sunday night, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on Monday.
FO Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that the discussion focused on the “overall regional situation, ongoing tensions, and the promotion of peace and stability”. Pakistan shared updates on its diplomatic outreach, which is geared toward de-escalating friction and encouraging a return to the negotiating table for relevant parties.
Key Highlights of the Discussion:
- Regional De-escalation: Pakistan highlighted its efforts to bridge gaps between regional rivals.
- Iranian Recognition: FM Araghchi commended Pakistan’s “sincere mediation”, acknowledging Islamabad’s unique position as a facilitator.
- Diplomatic Path: Ishaq Dar reaffirmed that sustainable peace is contingent upon consistent diplomatic engagement.
“Dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward the peaceful resolution of issues and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond,” the Foreign Office quoted Dar as saying.
The development comes at a sensitive time for the region, as Pakistan continues to act as a key diplomatic conduit. Both sides agreed to maintain close contact and reinforce bilateral diplomatic ties to ensure collective regional security.
